...outlined and wrote her first draft for a new creative writing lesson in IEW (rewrite of an Andrew Lang fairy tale of her choice).
...had a week off from Abeka Literature.
...flew through four Spelling Power lists.
...copied a few songs from The Hobbit. She wants to memorize them.
...completed her map skills, typing, and logic workbook.
...read and took the quizzes for three chapters in Tiner's Exploring the World of Physics. She only has two chapters left.
DragonFly...
...is also copying a song from The Hobbit that he wants to memorize. Actually I think he has half of it memorized already.
...completed six Math-U-See lessons, 6 pages of Singapore Math review, and two Abeka lessons.
...finished four R&S English lessons on state-of-being verbs and helping verbs.
...did well on his All About Spelling for the week which covered /oo/ words.
...had the week off from assigned reading mostly because I needed to pick his next book.
...did extra work in his maps workbook and typing.
Bible/Memory Work we...
...spent the week reviewing all of our poems and catechism questions. It was definitely needed after three weeks off.
...completed Lesson 3: God- What Is He Like? in Understanding the Faith.
...passed five sections each in their Awana books!

In History/Geography we...
...studied Copernicus. DragonFly was very excited that this was a sciency history week.
...learned about heliocentric and geocentric views of planet movement.
...learned a bit about Poland since that was Copernicus' birthplace.
...read about mathematicians from the period of the Reformation in Mathematicians Are People, Too (vol 1 & 2). DragonFly loved these books so much I'm going to let him read them as his next assigned reading.
...discussed the life of Bartolome' de Las Casas and his fight for the rights of the indigenous peoples of the Americas.
Buttercup listened to Viggo Mortensen read some of Bartolome' de Las Casas journal about the treatment of the native peoples. Please preview as we decided it was best for junior high and up. The English portion begins about five minutes in.

In Science/Health we...
...has a blast reviewing magnetism. The kids spent the week telling me all about electromagnets, inverse square laws, and all kinds of stuff. They are way smarter than I am.

The kids were attacked by Orcs and are repairing their shields.
...are about three hours into our audio of The Two Towers by Tolkien.







Looks like a good, solid week! We are also really enjoying Tolkien right now, reading The Hobbit in preparation for the movie later this year.
